Tuxedo or Tux is a smoking, no difference, but the name is american and comes from the name of the place Tuxedo Park Village in New York where it was worn for the first time instead of the usual suit.

Tuxedo is defined as an evening or ceremonial cloth and silk lapel jacket, usually black, white or midnight blue, that men wear when the coat is not required.
